World Suicide Prevention Day

Organised by: Women Development Cell

Students: 51

Description:

College students often experience academic pressure, uncertainty about the future, relationship concerns and other challanges that can affect their emotional wellbeing. So it is our duty to create a supportive environment where students can openly discuss mental health and seek help.So ,on the occasion of World suicide day ,Women Development cell in association with the ant(action northeast trust) and the North Eastern Social Research Centre conducted an awareness program on the theme "Changing the Narrative on Suicide. "
The event took place in two sessions. In the first session Rhondeni Kikon gave a brief note on the ant( action northeast trust),it's objectives ,focus etc. After that Ms.Vizkhole did a research presentation around access to affordable, quality public health services as a fundamental right. The need for a community approach model in public health as a crucial strategy to bridge the existing gaps, particularly between public and private stakeholders and communities. The resource person in her presentation explained the importance of prioritising community engagement in health planning ,implementation and decision making so that public health initiatives can become more responsive, inclusive and effective.
In the second session Ms Priyanka Bhuyan elaborately discussed on awareness of mental health and Suicide prevention, help seeking behavior and encouraging students to support peers who may be experiencing emotional distress.

Outcomes:

The programme was a successful one.The students get clear idea that a quality public health is their fundamental right. And the students also learn how to improve their mental health and how to support their friends who are experiencing emotional distress.
